Appeals at the New Hampshire Supreme Court

The enabling statute of the Office of the Consumer Advocate explicitly authorizes the Consumer Advocate to appear before "any board, commission, agency, court or regulatory body in which the interests of residential utility customers are involved."

The Court before which the OCA most frequently appears is the New Hampshire Supreme Court, which has jurisdiction to hear appeals of decisions made by the New Hampshire Public Utilities Commission (PUC). We sometimes appear in the role of appellant – a party that disagrees with a PUC decision – and sometimes we are an appellee, urging the Court to affirm the PUC.
