Office of the Consumer Advocate
The Office of Consumer Advocate represents the interests of New Hampshire’s residential utility customers – at the Public Utilities Commission and everywhere else those interests are at stake.
The Office of the Consumer Advocate has, by statute, "the power and duty to…appear or intervene in any proceeding…in which the interests of residential utility customers are involved."
We appear as a party in all major proceedings at the New Hampshire Public Utilities Commission (PUC). We represent the interests of New Hampshire ratepayers regionally and federally as well. We educate the ratepaying public about how best to use the utility service available to them and how best to hold our state's public utilities accountable.
The OCA is an independent state agency. Although we are administratively attached to the Department of Energy, and we appear at the PUC regularly, we are not part of either the Department of the Commission.
